Laura Nolte with a strong start – but mistakes on the track
The American Humphries, who was leading after the first day, was the first to enter the ice track. The 36-year-old did not have a completely flawless run, but the pursuers made even more mistakes: The second-placed Canadian Christine de Bruin continued to lose on the difficult track (+1.55 seconds).
Laura Nolte couldn’t make up any time either – on the contrary. After a decent start, the youth Olympic champions touched the rails several times, stood across the track and was already more than two seconds behind the leaders before the last run.
Breeana Walker is also making up time on Nolte
The American Elana Meyers Taylor (+1.730), who is 0.32 seconds ahead of Nolte, knew how to exploit Nolte’s mistakes. The 23-year-old German has to have a spotless final run to be able to secure bronze. Because Australian Breeana Walker (fifth place) is only 0.23 seconds behind Laura Nolte after the second best time in the third run.
Mariama Jamaica was way behind after day one
The second German starter, Mariama Jamanka, had no chance to fight for a medal after the first two runs. After major difficulties on the track, the Olympic champion in the two-man bobsleigh was only 17th (+3.690) after two runs.
In the third run, Jamanka was able to improve by three places. With a gap of +4.290 seconds to Humphries, she is in 14th place before the decision.
