Cross-country skier Laura Gimmler achieved her second top ten placement this winter at the World Cup freestyle sprint in Canmore, Canada.
In the 1988 Olympic cross-country ski run, the Oberstdorfer came seventh after being narrowly eliminated in the semi-finals. Gimmler, who was fifth in Oberhof in mid-January, was only 13 hundredths of a second short of making it to the final of the top six.
Olympic champion Victoria Carl (Zella-Mehlis) had previously been eliminated in the quarter-finals, but fifth overall in the World Cup collected important points in 15th place. Lena Keck (Buchenberg) reached the knockout round of the best 30 for the second time in her career, and ultimately came 30th in the final rankings.
The Norwegian Kristine Staavas Skistad secured the victory, ending Sweden’s Linn Svan’s series after four successes since the beginning of the year.
In the men’s race, Anian Sossau (Iron Doctors) was the only German runner to survive the qualification, but then came last in his quarter-finals. Record World Cup winner Johannes Hösflot Kläbo (Norway) celebrated his 75th career success.
Katharina Hennig (Obwerwiesenthal), team sprint Olympic champion with Carl in Beijing in 2022, had decided not to start in the sprint with a view to the final 20 km classic race on Sunday (women 6 p.m., men 8:15 p.m. CET).
