Laura Gimmler Gimmler is eliminated in the semifinals

Cross-country skier Laura Gimmler just missed a top result in the World Cup sprint in Les Rousses, France. The woman from Oberstdorf was the only German to make it to the semi-finals of the twelve best starters on Saturday, but then dropped out and ultimately finished ninth.

Norway’s Kristine Stavaas Skistad secured her first win of the season ahead of Sweden’s Emma Ribom and Maja Dahlqvist. Gimmler’s Oberstdorf team colleague Coletta Rydzek ended up in 15th place.

Cross-country skiing Olympic champion Victoria Carl flies in the qualification

Team Olympic champion Victoria Carl had already failed in the qualification. Her gold colleague from Beijing Katharina Hennig, who ensured the first World Cup victory for a German cross-country skier since 2009 on January 7th, is not at the start in Les Rousses and will only return to the World Cup next weekend in Toblach.

France’s Richard Jouve secured victory for the men. Janosch Brugger was the only German runner to start and missed qualifying for the quarter-finals of the top 30.
