Laura Borràs, it is time to resign

Laura Borràs’s soap opera can no longer have any more seasons. It is time for the president of Junts, sentenced to four and a half years in prison for prevarication and document falsification, to abandon a victimhood that could not be more tiresome. It is time for me to take a step back and resign from the presidency of Parliament, something that she was able to do on two previous occasions, when an oral trial was opened for her in the case and when she was suspended from her duties in the chamber. It is time for her to do so despite the fact that the judges have requested a pardon for her because they consider that the custodial sentence imposed on her is excessive.

It is time for Borràs to resign before anyone else demands it, no matter how much the newly known sentence is not yet final or that a regulation allows him to hold on to the seat in Parliament. It is time for his departure to materialize and allow the institution that he still presides over to leave behind a limbo that lasts nine months.. The internship in which the Catalan chamber lives, the cradle of popular sovereignty, is inadmissible.

It is time for her party, if she refuses and insists on her stubbornness, removes her from office and appoints another person to occupy the presidency of Parliament that agreed in the investiture agreements of the Government of Pere Aragonès.

It is time that all the political parties in the chamber, if she and Junts do not give in, remember that May has many more attributes than being a month of municipal elections and that they agree on which formula to use to force the renewal in the presidency of Parliament. It is time for them to decide between a political path (agree on a new presidency), an administrative path (recur to the Electoral Board) or a regulatory path (the PSC proposal)..

Catalonia, its citizens and its institutions deserve better than this soap opera. It’s time.
