Laura Borràs ignores the neutrality that Junts demands of its leaders before the consultation

  • The president of the party is in favor of leaving the Executiu because “it no longer has democratic legitimacy”

  • The electoral syndicate of the formation disfigures the use of official symbols by leaders of members of the leadership

It has been of little use that the electoral union of Junts have claimed “neutrality” and the non-use of positions to request the vote in one direction or another in the consultation to decide whether or not to leave the Government. The same party president, Laura Borrashas published a tweet in which he not only explains that he intends to vote against continuing in the Executiu hand in hand with ERC, but has done so with a photograph in which he appears on a lectern with the Junts logo. Right after, the union has issued a new statement to warn again that the neatness of the process depends on the fact that the main leaders of the formation stick to the formalities claimed and do not use official symbology.

“Out of responsibility, out of consistency and out of respect for the members and voters of Junts and all the pro-independence voters of 14-F, I will vote ‘no’ to stay in a government that we have certified that it does not advance nationally and that, therefore, it does not guarantee our progress as a society either,” Borràs wrote on his personal Twitter account. He did so shortly after the first statement sent by the electoral commission, the internal body in charge of ensure the guarantees of the consultation process, in which he asked the leadership of the party to act under the principle of “maximum neutrality”.

In addition to the written message, Borràs accompanies his tweet with some audios in which he considers that the Government chaired by Pere Aragones “doesn’t fit democratic legitimacy” because “it is no longer the government of 52%” of independentist votes obtained in the elections of February 14, 2021. In addition, it digs into the fact that ERC has “expelled” herself as president of the Parlament and also Jordi Puigneró as vice president of the Executiu. “Can you talk about loyalty like that?” ensures. “Junts cannot participate in a consensus for the resignation,” she insists, recalling the role of the Republicans in Madrid with the Government of Pedro Sánchez. For all these reasons, he defends leaving the Government out of “responsibility” and “coherence”.

Despite the directive of the Junts electoral union, Borràs has decided to speak out, although precisely this Tuesday he assured that he would not do so at the same time that he fueled the arguments against continuing to form part of a Government that he branded as “fraudulent”. After the tweet, a new statement from the union has warned that they had been “detected” images with the official logo of the party and has again insisted that the rules of the process be followed.

Borràs’ position for leaving the Government coincides with that of the ‘ex-president’ Carles Puigdemontwho on the eve of the start of the consultation has published an article by his former chief of staff and spokesperson for Junts, Joseph Rius, in which he defends arguments for not continuing to be part of the Executiu. In the opposite line, the majority of Junts’ ministers and mayors and councilors who are promoting manifestos in favor of staying are speaking out. For now, the secretary general, Jordi Turull, has not spoken. She said that she would do it before the start of the vote, but might not do so after insistent requests from the electoral commission.
