Laura Borràs avoids self-criticism for the boycott of the victims of 17-A

  • The president of Junts distances herself from the shouts during the minute of silence but defends the protesters

  • He maintains that he did not seek protagonism and reiterates the conspiracy thesis about the attacks

Laura Borras, president of Junts per Catalunya and recently suspended as president of the Parliament due to the corruption trial that she will face shortly, has avoided any self-criticism about her actions this Tuesday, greeting the demonstrators who participated in an act of protest and boycott of the tribute to the victims of terrorism in the fifth tribute to the Rambla attack. Borràs has distanced himself from the shouting during the minute of silence but has continued to support the demonstrators, who before and during the act shouted conspiratorial slogans accusing the State of being behind the attacks.

In an interview on Catalunya Ràdio, and asked directly if he doesn’t think he was wrong at any time this Tuesday, he replied: “Why are we talking about me yesterday? The protagonism belonged to the victims, I reject any type of protagonism”.

“There were banners, the cry of demand, music…”

Borràs has minimized the boycott of the minute of silence and has distanced himself from it. “It’s totally out of character for a minute of silence to interrupt.” But he has defended his decision, after the boycott act – during which there were shouts from the protesters while the ceremony took place – to go and greet the protesters: “We greet the people, it has nothing to do with the [boicot al] minute of silence with these people”. What is more, the suspended President of Parliament has once again made the speech of the boycott platform her own and has normalized everything that happened yesterday except for the shouts during the minute of silence: “During the entire act there were these banners, this cry demanding to know the truth. There was music, the floral offering … “. She also responded negatively to the question of whether she asked the protesters for explanations for what happened and defended not “criminalizing people, many of whom are relatives of the victims.”

And about those who confronted the victims of the attacks, he has also minimized what happened: “It has been seen what people they are, these people I did not greet or applaud them.” The president of Junts has especially defended the protesters and their theories: “The victims want to know, they want to clarify the facts, a society that has lived through events like these must be able to know what has happened, asking for investigation commissions, clarifying what has passed to demand responsibilities”.

On the other hand, Borràs has affirmed that he will continue to go to the Parliament, he has once again criticized the “autonomism” of the Government and the need to consult the bases of Junts about the continuity or not of the party in the Catalan Executive.
