Laubentoort for topping-out ceremony – There could have been better options

Around 1,000 new apartments are to be built on Saatwinkler Damm. The existing allotment gardens were leveled for this purpose. A comment from BZ editor Oliver Ohmann.

Berlin celebrated Friday Topping-out ceremony for almost 1000 apartments. The government was there, the building senator and the builders.

I cycled past the construction site in the morning. It is located on the Hohenzollern Canal, directly on the closed Siemensbahn. A huge foundation lies there, you can guess the dimensions of the apartment block. Allotment gardens have existed here for decades. Colorful arcade paradises, as far as the eye could see. They were all flattened to create the living space that the Senate didn’t care about for years.

The closed airport is right next door. There would be endless space. But the original plans will not be changed. TXL gets wild meadows and eco wooden houses. Everything already existed, namely on Laubenland on Saatwinkler Damm.
