Head of Conexus Bariss: Russian gas has stopped flowing to the Baltic countries since the beginning of April
Gas has stopped flowing to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia since the beginning of April. Lithuania announced the refusal of Russian gas the day before.
Since the beginning of April, natural gas from Russia has ceased to flow to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, Uldis Bariss, head of the operator of the Latvian gas transmission system Conexus Baltic Grid (Conexus), said, Jauns reports.
According to him, Moscow’s decision to accept payment for gas from unfriendly countries only in rubles sent a signal to the Baltic states to sharply reduce the volume of supplies, since they “can no longer be relied upon.”
“From the point of view of the energy security of the state, it is definitely necessary to resolve the issue of building a second LNG terminal,” Bariss said.
Lithuania refused Russian gas
Gas is currently supplied to Latvia by the Klaipeda LNG Terminal and the Inčukalns Underground Gas Storage, the latter of which has “atypical amount of gas for this period,” Bariss said. Therefore, the country has no reason to worry about its energy security in the next few months, he said.
