Latvia announced the cessation of issuing visas to Russians

This decision will not affect humanitarian visas, the republic’s Foreign Ministry said. Earlier, the suspension of extradition was announced by the Czech Republic

Latvia will stop issuing visas to Russians due to Russia’s military operation in the Donbass, informed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Edgar Rinkevich on Twitter.

“Because of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, I have decided to recall the Latvian Ambassador to Russia for consultations, as well as to suspend the issuance of Latvian visas to Russian citizens, with the exception of humanitarian visas,” the Foreign Minister wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the Czech Republic announced its decision to suspend the issuance of visas to Russian citizens. It also decided to close the Russian consulates general in Karlovy Vary and Brno and its diplomatic missions in St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. The country recalled ambassadors from Russia and Belarus.

Belgian Refugee Minister Sammy Mahdi suggested that EU members stop issuing any Schengen visas to Russians.

Previously, the European Union restricted entry only to certain citizens of Russia and Ukraine.
