Christoph Daum, one of the former coaches of Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş, started to receive cancer treatment. The experienced coach told the German press about the latest treatment situation and his experiences.
Christoph Daum’s statements are as follows:
“EVERYTHING IS FINE”
“So far everything is going well. The treatments have a positive effect, the cancer cells disappear slightly. We also use supportive measures such as meditation and breathing exercises. Professor Jürgen Wolf, head of the oncology department at the university hospital, takes very good care of me. Unfortunately, cancer is a very insidious disease “And it can suddenly metastasize to another part of the body. This can devastate you.”
“I HAVE NOT RECOVERED YET”
“I am not cured yet. Research on cancer is making great progress and new methods may soon emerge. Our goal was to turn an acute condition into a chronic condition, to control the disease. I hope there will be more.”
“I RECEIVED 22 CHEMOTHERAPIES IN A WEEK”
“What I told myself to mentally cope with all this poison being pumped into you was that chemo is a dope. But after 22 chemo treatments in the last week, it’s gotten a little harder to avoid the side effects.”
“I NEARLY FALLED IN A COMA”
“Doctors agreed for me to visit my son in the USA. But guess what; I caught pneumonia! I almost fell into a coma. My wife Angelica said, ‘I shouted at you but you didn’t hear me’.”
“I RECEIVED SOME OFFERS”
Christoph Daum stated that he received some offers during this period, but he could not concentrate 100 percent due to the treatment he received.
“How often do you think about death?”
“We will all die one day. I want to live my life in the best way possible before I die.”
“Will you return to coaching?”
“Even after I got sick, I received offers. I received a sports directorship offer from Bruges and a coaching offer from one of the Balkan countries. I cannot be 100 percent available due to chemotherapy. I would like to make my name felt where I work.”
“What would you like to see written on your tombstone one day?”
“It might say, ‘He’s resting now.’ Maybe my kids will think of something better.”
“NAGELSMANN IS THE BEST”
“I think the best German coach at the moment is Julian Nagelsmann. Definitely on the same level as Jürgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Ralf Rangnick. Julian has a great attitude.”
