The worst shooting of the year
This Wednesday’s shooting in the city of Lewiston, in Maine, with its more than twenty fatalities – 22 according to US media, pending official data – is the worst recorded so far this year and one of the largest in the recent history of the country. This is a list of the shootings that have caused the most fatalities in the United States in recent years:
– October 1, 2017: 58 people died and more than 500 were injured at a massive outdoor concert in Las Vegas. The perpetrator of the massacre committed suicide.
– June 12, 2016: A sympathizer with jihadist ideas kills 49 people in a gay club in Orlando (Florida). He was shot dead by the police.
– April 16, 2007: A 23-year-old man kills 32 people and commits suicide on a college campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.
– December 14, 2012: Adam Lanza, a twenty-something, entered the Sandy Hook school and killed 26 people in a shooting, 20 of them six and seven year old children.
– November 5, 2017: The shooting at a Baptist church in Sutherland Springs (Texas) leaves 26 dead and twenty injured.
