As of: 07/29/2022 8:08 p.m

At fourth division 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn, 1. FC Nürnberg plays a dominant role, but only clears things up at the end of the first round of the DFB Cup.

Second division soccer team 1. FC Nürnberg struggled against a combative regional league team 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn in the second round of the DFB Cup. A free kick converted directly by Johannes Geis shortly before the half-time whistle gave the Franconians a 2-0 (1-0) lead on Friday (July 29th, 2022) in the Leimbach Stadium in Siegen.

It stayed that way for a long time, and the outsider had his chances in the second half, so that Nürnberg had to tremble until almost the end before Enrico Valentini (84th minute) made everything clear for the “Club” in the final phase.

Nuremberg needs start-up time

The fourth division team lurked compactly for their counterattack opportunities from the start and caused FCN some problems. Only after almost half an hour did Nuremberg’s efforts become more concrete. Jens Castrop tested goalkeeper Robert Jendrusch after 26 minutes with a long-range shot for the first time.

A little later, Mats Möller-Daehli fired a shot from the turn at the post (33rd). After Kwadwo Duah pushed the ball just wide of the goal in another opportunity (42nd), a standard put the guests on track. Geis circled a free kick from almost 25 meters with a great shot to make it 0:1 in the left corner.

With the lead behind them, Nürnberg didn’t play more dominantly in the second half. Kaan-Marienborn stayed in the game without posing any major problems for the guests. Ultimately, it was Valentini who finally ensured the final safety at the “Club”, who scored the redeeming 2-0 with a deflected shot six minutes before the end.
