Second division soccer team 1. FC Nürnberg struggled against a combative regional league team 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn in the second round of the DFB Cup. A free kick converted directly by Johannes Geis shortly before the half-time whistle gave the Franconians a 2-0 (1-0) lead on Friday (July 29th, 2022) in the Leimbach Stadium in Siegen.
It stayed that way for a long time, and the outsider had his chances in the second half, so that Nürnberg had to tremble until almost the end before Enrico Valentini (84th minute) made everything clear for the “Club” in the final phase.
Nuremberg needs start-up time
The fourth division team lurked compactly for their counterattack opportunities from the start and caused FCN some problems. Ultimately, it was Valentini who finally ensured the final safety at the “Club”, who scored the redeeming 2-0 with a deflected shot six minutes before the end.
