Lasting memories of Liesbeth List on Vlieland

‘I love you, so sweet’ is written on a work of art that was unveiled on Vlieland on Friday in memory of singer Liesbeth List. Her foster father was a lighthouse keeper on the Wadden Island.

The work of Karel Zijlstra is at the top of the path on the dune with the lighthouse. The footpath from the village to the light beacon has been renamed Liesbeth Listpad by the King’s Commissioner Arno Brok. This happened in the presence of Elisah Baijens (the daughter of Liesbeth List) and her husband and daughter.

Youth on Vlieland

The path would have been named after the singer who died in 2020 a year ago, but that was canceled due to corona. Erik Houter unveiled the artwork. The entrepreneur is the son of Jan ‘van Vlieland’ Houter, who died at the beginning of this year, who was the first to submit the request to name the Torenpad after Liesbeth List. The singer was born in the former Dutch East Indies, but spent her childhood on Vlieland.

The unveiling on June 17 was chosen because on that day in 1973 Liesbeth Driessen officially changed her surname to List, the surname of her foster father.
