Last year she battled cancer. Now referee Eva (21) is blowing the whistle again: “My muscles were gone, I had to come back from scratch”

“In my darkest days, football friends helped me reach a bright spot,” says Eva Coussement from Vilvoorde. At the age of twenty, a cancer diagnosis turned this female referee’s life upside down. In the meantime, she is whistling through life again, literally and figuratively. Here she explains how she was able to bounce back. “Once I really shed bitter tears.”
