Last week for D66 alderman Bergsma: ‘I wanted to continue’

He wanted to continue for a while, but there was no place for him in the new coalition in Assen. That is why D66 alderman Bob Bergsma will say goodbye to the councilor after 2.5 years on Thursday.

“This is also political.” says Bergsma in the Radio Drenthe program Cassata, “I look back on 2.5 years of beautiful aldermanship, of course in corona time, but we have achieved beautiful things.”

Almost the entire period that Bergsma was alderman, he had to deal with the corona virus and corona measures. And that is not easy if you are, among other things, alderman for culture. Think of the (partly) closed museums and theaters. “It was a bizarre period. But on the other hand, we did ensure that a number of things in the field of culture were realized in Assen during that period, and I am very happy with that,” says Bergsma.

By this he means an annual structural financial contribution to the Drents Museum of 250,000 euros and the realization of CAMPIS, an art stage for contemporary art.

Bergsma is most proud of bringing the Thorbecke Academy from NHL Stenden to Assen. An academy with courses such as public administration, integrated security science, law and cyber safety. Something that, according to Bergsma, fits well with Assen. “It is a reputable party, with renowned courses in the field of public administration, which fits in nicely with Assen with many government and government institutions. We can benefit a lot from this in Assen and throughout Drenthe.”

In the Radio Drenthe program Cassata, Bob Bergsma looks back on the past 2.5 years. He is proud of bringing the Thorbecke academy to Assen. But he would also have liked to realize a TT Museum. Watch the entire conversation with presenter Margriet Benak below:
