Until just before the end, it looked like Real Madrid would blunder in the top game. However, Sevilla faltered in the final stages before Karim Benzema struck in added time.
In the title race of the Spanish league, there was an exciting top game with a late turn. Real Madrid beat Sevilla 3-2 thanks to an injury-time goal to extend their lead to 15 points. The team around Toni Kroos was even 0:2 behind.
With six games to go, the Madrilenians are on course for the title, while arch-rivals Barcelona still have two games less but can only reduce the gap to nine points.
That’s how the game went
Sevilla showed Real early on why they have the best defense in the league. Disciplined and compact, the Andalusians defended and waited for counterattacks. In the 21st minute, Ivan Rakitic gave Sevilla the lead with a beautiful free-kick. The Croatian curled the ball into the goal from 18 meters.
Only four minutes later, the hosts followed up. After a good move, Jesus Corona appeared in front of Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and pointed the ball to team-mate Erik Lamela, who scored to make it 2-0 (25′). The score went into the break with this score.

In the second round, Real was fresher and more aggressive in the game going forward. After an assist from Dani Carvajal, the young Brazilian Rodrygo was wide awake in the center and reduced to 1:2 (50th).
As a result, Real became more offensive, but did not get through for a long time. Only in the final phase did they equalize. Again it was Carvajal who hung up the goal. This time, however, Nacho was his taker (82nd).
Not wanting to settle for the point, Madrid kept pushing for the winner. They were rewarded in the second minute of injury time: Rodrygo pulled through to the baseline and put it down to Karim Benzema, who, after a brief deception, shot the ball in – and scored.
