Last minute vacation? Courier leaves bus full of packages at Schiphol departure terminal

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (Kmar) conducted an investigation at Schiphol last night into a courier bus full of packages that had been left in front of terminal 3 with the engine running.

When invigilating Marechaussees noticed that the van had been parked in a kiss & ride spot for a very long time, they went to investigate. There were a large number of packages in the back of the bus, but the driver was nowhere to be seen, a spokesperson for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee told NH News.

“A bus should not be there for long,” said the spokesman, who explained that the bus was then examined by an expert and a dog for the presence of explosives. “Safety first,” said the spokesperson, “so we followed standard procedures.”

Checked in

After inspection, the bus turned out to be safe, although there was something else remarkable going on. “We saw on camera images that the driver had parked the bus and then checked in to go on a trip,” says the spokesperson. Other cameras had captured the man passing through security and heading for the gates.

In the end, he boarded a plane and left with flying colours, the spokesperson confirms. The spokesperson declined to comment on his destination. However, the KMar tweets that the owner of the courier company has left the bus full of packages ‘full of surprise’.

‘In conversation with employer’

The spokesperson emphasizes that the driver is not suspected of a criminal offense. “But he will have to talk to his employer, there is a suspicion that he used the bus for something he was not allowed to use it for.”
