“Devastating consequences”
“Today (October 12) just before midnight local time,” UN officials in Gaza “were informed by their Israeli army liaison officers that the entire population north of Wadi Gaza was to be relocated to the south in 24 hours”, that is, around 1.1 million people, indicated Stéphane Dujarric.
“The United Nations strongly requests that, if confirmed, any such order be rescinded, preventing what could transform what is already a tragedy into a calamitous situation,” he added. “The UN considers it impossible for this movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences,” the spokesperson said. Hours earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Betanyahu promised to destroy Hamas, after speaking in Tel Aviv with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
