The worst fire in France in 2023
The Cervera fire has already burned nearly 1,000 hectares and is therefore the worst forest fire declared so far this year in France, indicates the French National Meteorological Service. “The dryness of the soil has contributed to the fire, which has been combined with very unfavorable weather conditions”, explained the delegate of the French Government in the Department of the Pyrénées-Orientales, Rodrigue Furcy, alluding to the wind blowing in the zone. The Météo-France has also specified that the Roselló area is one of the most affected by the drought that the French country also suffers: between September and March, the level of rainfall was reduced by half compared to normal.
