Last broadcast for Hoogeveen Hospital and Elderly Broadcasting

After fifty-four years, it is over for the Hoogeveen Hospital and Elderly Broadcasting (HZBO). Saturday afternoon was the last broadcast of the broadcaster. All volunteers and members of the board came together again to reminisce and play music.

“It’s a double feeling,” says board member Henk Strikkers. “We had to make a well-considered, but difficult choice to stop.”

The broadcaster is shutting down for a number of reasons. “We are all in our seventies and eighties, the broadcaster has to move, the board is no longer complete and we have few listeners. So it will end one day,” says presenter Klaasje van der Weide. She has been working in broadcasting for over 30 years.
