Lassi Etelätalo made an effort again from the last place to the final and the points. The surprise was the third best European in the javelin World Cup final.
PASI LEISMA
Javelin throw coach of the Finnish Sports Association Petteri Piironen crystallized it. Piironen said on Yle’s broadcast that Lassi at Etelätalo has a factory warranty.
Always the scorer in value competitions. It didn’t disappoint in Eugene either, as Etelätalo was the best Finn in the javelin World Cup final, sixth.
Etelätalo was fourth in the 2014 Zurich European Championships and the 2019 Doha World Championships. In Doha, he was the only Finnish athlete to score at the Games. At the Tokyo Olympics, Etelätalo was eighth.
– It is a very valuable and hard performance. In general, only medals are valued. I believe that Lass will have many snacks and memories from this. I really appreciate it, Etelätalo coach Leo Pusa comment on the scoreboard.

Etelätalo threw his season’s best result of 82.70 in the WC final early on Sunday morning. The best throw came on the third attempt.
Pusa expected even better from his guardrail. According to him, Pakistan Arshad Nadeem The fifth place (86.16 meters) could have been in a dream situation.
– I am completely satisfied with the investment. There would have been a chance to go higher instead of one, if everything had fallen into place. It should have been a toss up.
Etelätalo tried to increase the pace with the third. The result was the only one overstepped in the Finnish race.
– He didn’t get the speedy performance he was trying for. He couldn’t get the rhythm to finish and the performance went through. It had snacks for a long throw.
No more quadruplets
PASI LEISMA
Pusa knows how to appreciate the scorer, especially because the international level of javelin throwing has expanded wildly.
In Eugene, the gold went to Grenada, the silver to India and the bronze to the Czech Republic. Among others, Pakistan and Moldova took the points.
– Earlier, the European Championships were like the World Championships. Now the international level has expanded.
Etelätalo was the third best in the final, if we only look at the Europeans. An upbeat performance bodes well for the European Championships in August.
– If only this could be moved to Munich… That would be really great. The goal is for everything to culminate in a medal, Pusa laughs.
An experienced coach knows that Eugene was missing from the line, among other things, the player who threw the longest among the active players Johannes Vetterworld champion Vitezlav Vesely and Olympic champion Thomas Röhler.
The unofficial third place of the Europeans is not directly transferable to Munich. However, Pusa clearly states what Etelätalo does not want from Germany.
– Fourth place is not enough. Third or something else, Pusa nails it.
The European Championships will be held from 15 to 21 August.
