Las Wedding wedding! Getting married in the Penny Market next to the meat counter

Something hearty for the wedding! Next to the meat chest in the Penny supermarket on Prinzenallee, 18 couples said yes on Tuesday.

Matthias Lehmann (57) pushes his wife Kathrin (51) in the shopping cart through the supermarket towards the checkout after the wedding. They cheer, Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” blares in the background.

17 other couples got married on Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in Las Vegas style in Kiez-Penny – Las Wedding weddings!

“We still love each other like day one and wanted to confirm that today. We traditionally got married 31 years ago. Today was a unique experience,” say Harald (58) and Michaela Mitzkus (56) from Emmerich (NRW).

The wedding ceremony took place for the couples on a white and gold pedestal next to supermarket shelves. An Elvis impersonator married them and then sang one of the King’s hits with the band.

After the first dance, the newlyweds went to the cash desk, where they received a wedding basket with sparkling wine and chocolates. The price, matching the date: 22.22 euros. There was also a voucher for the wedding dinner at Curry 36. And the marriage certificate came in proper style on a receipt.

400 couples from all over Germany had applied for the supermarket wedding. The discounter had closed its doors to customers because of the 18 weddings. So no shopping basket stood in the way of the wedding romance.

Berlin’s registrars had a lot to do

On Tuesday, 157 couples wanted to secure the Schnapszahl date February 22, 2022 with the five twos as the love formula on their marriage certificate. One couple after the other walked hand in hand to the registry office in the Schöneberg town hall. With 25 couples, most of them said yes in the district (2nd place: Charlottenburg and Neukölln with 22 marriages, 3rd place: Spandau with 18).

Vera (22) and Bilal Chaabane (28) have been a couple for three and a half years and got married yesterday in the Schöneberg town hall.

In Tempelhof-Schoeneberg the appointments were made particularly quickly. “Unfortunately, in the last few weeks we had to cancel the last-minute decision-makers,” said District Councilor for Citizen Services, Matthias Steuckardt (CDU).

Almost all registry offices had increased their capacities for the day. As in Neukölln: “Usually a maximum of six marriages take place on a Tuesday. We have almost quadrupled the number of marriages,” the district said.

Jennifer Hein (35) and Joseph Pundt (31) said yes in the Treptow registry office. After the proposal for a jet ski on Mallorca vacation, the wedding date should also be something very special. “We even postponed our wedding because of it. Actually, we didn't want to get married until 2023.

Charlottenburg normally marries a maximum of eight couples a day and even offered engaged couples a second location for February 22, 2022. “In this way, we made it possible for 22 couples to get off to a good start in their marriage,” said the satisfied district councilor Arne Herz (CDU).
