The enormous sand injection was actually already planned for 2021. But the discovery of PFAS in the construction site for the Nieuwe Sluis in Terneuzen throws a spanner in the works. Three million cubic meters of sand had to come from there. The work had already partly started this spring and can now continue completely. The coastline is thus reinforced over a distance of 2.5 kilometers.
