Heerlen’s largest party, the Elderly Party Heerlen (OPH), opts for the opposition. Formateur Eke Zijlstra therefore announced on Sunday that the talks about a new coalition have been stopped now that the OPH does not want to continue.
The party could not agree with SP, CDA, VVD/D66 and Hoensbroek Belang about the portfolio allocation, according to Dijkstra.

coalition talks
According to the formateur, the Heerlen formation was already at an advanced stage. A coalition agreement was within reach. But the other intended coalition parties were unwilling to meet the OPH’s wishes in terms of portfolio allocation.
As the largest party, OPH took the lead in the negotiations and previously recruited former chairman of the board of the Atrium Hospital Eke Zijlstra as a formateur. Zijlstra announces that she has returned the assignment as a formateur due to the switch from OPH.
SP
It is obvious that the SP is now the second largest party to take the initiative in forming coalitions. One more party is definitely needed for that. The previously dropped Youth Party is now back in the picture.
