Large warehouse of online mail order company Ozon burned down in Moscow

A large warehouse belonging to the Russian online mail order company Ozon burned down near Moscow.

“The roof collapsed over an area of ​​22,000 square meters. The fire area exceeded 55,000 square meters,” said civil defense on Wednesday, according to the Interfax agency. According to Ozone, more than 1,000 employees were able to be taken out of the building. There was conflicting information about the number of victims.

According to the Center for Disaster Medicine, one person died and 13 people were injured. The civil defense itself reported eleven injured and two missing. The Ozon group, in turn, had previously announced that all employees in the warehouse had been brought to safety in good time.

The warehouse has a total area of ​​100,000 square meters. The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, has already stated that the building can no longer be saved. Ozon is one of the largest online mail order companies in Russia. The damage is estimated by Russian insurance companies at the equivalent of more than 160 million euros.
