It has become a tradition: when the Drents Museum has a major exhibition, you will see a huge statue at the Kop van de Vaart. This time it is Vincent van Gogh.
The new exhibition Traveling with Vincent opens this weekend at the Drents Museum. And such a new, large exhibition traditionally includes a large statue at the Kop van de Vaart. This time too, the city center organization Vaart in Assen asked the company Blow-Up Industry to make a meter-high statue of special polystyrene foam.
Four meters high
Previously, this Groningen company also made the colorful bust of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Vincent van Gogh’s statue is less extravagant, with a completely rust-colored coating. The painter, more than four meters high, carries the canvas ‘De Turfschuit’, painted in Drenthe, under his left arm. In any case, the statue will remain until the end of the exhibition on January 7.
The exhibition in the museum follows Vincent during his wanderings through Drenthe in 1883. For the first time, as many works as possible from his Drenthe oeuvre can be seen in one place. Visitors to the exhibition can also experience the Van Gogh City Experience in the city centre. This is a free walking route through the streets, where you will see huge murals and Van Gogh-inspired drawings in the shop windows. The brochure is available at the Drents Museum and the VVV Assen in Marktstraat.
