A large fire raged in an apartment complex for seniors at the Amandelpark in Eindhoven on Sunday evening. The fire brigade turned out with several units, several floors of the building were evacuated for a short time. The cause of the fire is not yet known. This is being investigated by the police.
The fire started just before half past eight in an apartment on the top floor of the complex with a total of 114 homes in the Vaartbroek district, in the north of Eindhoven.
Multiple corps
Soon the fire was scaled up from ‘large’ to ‘very large’. The fire brigade from Geldrop, Helmond, Oirschot, Son en Breugel and Nuenen has been called to help.
The fire raged on the top floor. Because some roof plates also caught fire, the fire looked ‘spectacular’, in the words of the chief officer on duty. Six apartments suffered significant damage, he said. The fire was under control around 10:30 am.
Assylum
Residents were taken care of in a nearby community center. Some of them received medical care. One resident was checked in the ambulance and one resident was taken to hospital because she had inhaled smoke. It concerns the occupant of the apartment where the fire started.
Residents of lower floors were allowed to go home around ten o’clock. This did not apply to the residents of the six apartments who suffered considerable damage. It is unknown when they can return home.
