The large fire at a farm on the Schenkeldijk in Nieuwendijk is under control. Just before ten o’clock on Monday evening, the fire brigade gave the signal fire master. There were thirty bulls and calves in the stable. The vet had seven animals put to sleep because of burns the animals suffered.
No people were injured in the fire that broke out just before 7:30 a.m. Fire brigades from Central West Brabant and South Holland South came to the scene with three tanker sprayers and an aerial platform.
Animals are safe
It is a mixed farm with arable farming and bulls. The owner of the company previously announced that the animals were doing well under the circumstances and that they had been safely removed from the stable thanks to the efforts of the fire brigade. The animals were housed in the yard, enclosed between a number of wooden boxes to prevent them from escaping.
In the end, a vet had seven animals put to sleep because of the injuries they sustained.
Smoke development
According to a spokesperson for the Central West Brabant Security Region, it was a relatively new stable. The fire was clearly visible in the area due to the smoke development. According to the Safety Region, there is so far no question of asbestos.
