A skyscraper more than 200 meters high was badly damaged in a major fire in the central Chinese city of Changsha.
Authorities did not provide any information about possible victims in the 43-story building on Friday. Flames erupted from the skyscraper while dark clouds rose into the sky.
Officials said the fire was out by mid-afternoon. The cause of the fire was initially unknown.
The Changsha Telecom skyscraper, completed in 2000, is one of the landmarks of the capital of Hunan Province. It is a joint project of the Ministry of Telecommunications and the provincial and metropolitan authorities.
While network operator China Telecom said telecommunications services had not been disrupted, many cellphone users complained of disruptions.
