The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, spoke on Thursday in an interview on Onze (TV3). Beyond leaving several headlines, the top Barça leader also ruled on the immediate future of the women’s team.
He confirmed that not only the cuts do not affect the women’s budget, but also the salary mass of the section has increased: “We have gone from 8 million to 9 in salariesbecause we have strengthened the team with the incorporation of Ona [Batlle] and others that have occurred and also with the renewals of great players that we have”.
“We have a great coach like Jonatan [Giráldez] and Markel Zubizarreta, as technical secretary, who does very well”, he added, “It is a section that gives us benefits, not many but it does, and we want to continue betting on it”.
Friendly in Qatar?
In addition, the president confirmed that he received Qatar’s proposal to play a women’s friendly: “we are working on it because they have proposed it to us, we have to find dates but we are willing to do it because it would be a way to help promote equality of rights and gender in these countries that are opening up”.
And finally he explained that the team will make the summer tour of Mexico, although we will see with which players because many of the first team will be in the World Cup.
