Lapland’s police warns of a Whatsapp scam

Similar scam notifications were made on Friday in different parts of Finland.

The police of Lapland warns in their announcement about scams carried out through the Whatsapp application, which have resulted in large sums of money being swindled.

On Friday, a criminal report was filed with the Lapland police about fraud committed using the Whatsapp application.

The person concerned in the case had received a Whatsapp message in the name of his daughter, which said that the daughter’s phone had been damaged and that the message was therefore coming from a foreign number. After this, the interested party was asked to pay an urgent bill on behalf of the daughter.

The interested party had transferred a significant amount of money to the requested account until it became clear that the messages or the request had not come from the daughter. The money had already been transferred to the unreachable, the police press release says.

According to the police, similar fraud notifications were made on Friday in different parts of Finland.

The police urges you to always check the authenticity of even urgent requests for money and to treat calls from unknown numbers with caution.
