Lane closed, but that doesn’t make sense (at first glance).

Four warning beacons block the turning lane at the Birkbusch-/Siemensstrasse intersection, but a green turning arrow still shows drivers the way. Is something wrong here?

Mobile beacons have been blocking the road since November. Unknown people moved them again and again, so that the district office replaced them with permanently installed ones at the beginning of March. But what looks like a prank from Schilda has its place, according to district councilor Urban Aykal (48, Greens).

The reason for the road closure is a 73-year-old plane tree. The huge tree towers high over the road. The problem: the 186 double-decker buses are so high that they could be damaged or damage the tree.

“Since this street tree is to be preserved, the civil engineering department had to take measures to secure this dangerous area so that neither buses nor trucks drive through the crown area,” says Aykal.

However, turning right is not prohibited. “Before the intersection, there is only one lane from which you can turn left or right from Birkbuschstrasse into Siemensstrasse.”

Seems the actual turning lane will remain closed for now.
