Lane A28 closed for hours due to overloaded truck

A box truck that transported almost 5,000 kilos of goods more than allowed caused a lot of traffic disruption on the A28 near Hooghalen today. The driver was fined several times.

A lane was closed for four hours this morning after a tire on the small truck gave out, the police traffic team reports. “The cargo area was filled to the roof with soft drinks, toiletries and toys for the market.”

A special recovery truck for heavy equipment was needed to remove the overloaded car. “The whole load turned out to be so heavy that the recovery company could not dispose of the car in the normal way or place a spare wheel. The completely deformed rim could not be detached from the warped rear axle,” the police write on Instagram.

After we managed to take the truck with us, it turned out on the weighbridge that it weighed 8,380 kilos, where a maximum of 3,500 kilos is allowed. The 62-year-old man from the municipality of Kampen who rented and drove the car was fined for exceeding the maximum weight. A ticket was also written for causing danger and nuisance. The box truck is not allowed on the road for the time being.
