Landscape sadness in the Alps – NRC

Photographer Milan Schellingerhout (37) can’t remember not going skiing back in the day. “First we went to the Black Forest, the ideal place to learn it as a child. Later to Austria and Italy. By car and once by night train. I got pretty good at it pretty quickly. As a teenager you have no fear, that helps.”

Schellingerhout was left with a lifelong passion for the mountains. He still skis in winter with his family and hikes in the Alps in summer. He always enjoys nature, the landscape. The Alps are for him: purity, relaxation, beauty, space, inviolability.
