Landlord denies guilt in fire in student house

The fire that broke out at a student house in Breda on Friday morning is not due to a lax response to complaints from students. This is stated by the landlord agency Xior.

Four people were slightly injured in the fire in the student house on Tramsingel. They were taken to a hospital to be checked out.

The students said that Xior’s emergency number was called on Thursday night due to water in the electricity box. Then it would have been said: ‘It probably won’t come to that.’

A few days earlier, lamps were said to have gone out, after which, after a report, ‘things were done at the meter cupboard that were not OK afterwards’, according to the students.

According to Xior, which was unable to respond a week ago, the situation is very different. “Every report to the emergency number is taken seriously.”

Leakage in meter cupboard
According to the company, the fire was caused by a leak in the meter cupboard. There was a break in the stand pipe. “This break has caused a very serious leak that was immediately noticed by the residents on Thursday evening. Our emergency line was then called, where maintenance partners and emergency services were called in to repair the leak and disconnect the power.”

According to Xior, the emergency services did arrive on Thursday evening. According to the company, adequate action was also taken when the power went out earlier that week. “During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the power went out in the building for a few seconds. The caretaker was informed about this and went to the building on Wednesday together with a maintenance technician.”

Then there was electricity again. All fuse boxes have been opened. “There was nothing to see and everything worked as it should.”

According to Xior, it is still being investigated how a fire could still occur after the deployment of their technicians.
