Landfill Woumen must first undergo remediation: “PFAS found in waste layers”
A soil investigation by OVAM shows that, in addition to a lot of harmful and toxic substances such as cadmium and arsenic, PFAS is also present in the waste layers. Remediation is therefore necessary, but it is still unclear who should pay for it.
Garwig, the former owner, has been granted a partial exemption from the remediation obligation. The city of Diksmuide hopes that a new forest can be planted after the remediation, with a subsidy from the Flemish government.
