Suriname is a good alternative for farmers who want to continue their work elsewhere, emphasizes Rajendre Khargi. At the Floriade, the Surinamese pavilion at the World Horticultural Exhibition points out the possibilities offered by the Surinamese agricultural sector.
He explains that his country is net carbon negative, meaning the country absorbs more greenhouse gases than it emits. Khargi says this occurs in only two other countries in the world. He made these statements on Tuesday during a broadcast of Dit Is Flevoland from the Floriade in Almere. The country is home to large tracts of jungle and, compared to the Netherlands, fewer large industrial companies.
A switch to Suriname for Dutch farmers “will not be easy”, but hopefully they will consider it, he says. Last year, Surinamese president Chan Santokhi made a similar appeal to Dutch farmers.
