Aston Martin’s F1 driver Lance Stroll will have to miss this year’s winter tests. The Canadian was informed yesterday that he had a cycling accident.

Aston Martin wrote that the Canadian’s injuries were minor. The improvement of his condition is monitored day by day.

However, the team did not provide more details about Stroll’s injuries. This sparked wild speculation on social media, especially since Stroll hasn’t posted any pictures of himself since the accident.

The secretiveness is surprising, because Stroll is not the first driver to injure himself on a bike race before the start of the season. The Canadian’s new teammate Fernando Alonso experienced the same fate almost to the day two years ago. Alonso’s jaw was broken, but he was still able to participate in the winter tests.

On the other hand, the winter tests that start at Stroll on Thursday will be missed. The team already confirmed it on Monday.

Being sidelined for a test rupeama indicates a degree of worse injury. A broken bone in the hand, for example, makes driving an F1 car impossible.

Even if the Canadian, who has been driving in the F1 series since the 2017 season, is not in danger, there is reason to raise the possibility of missing the opening race as well.

Bahrain’s winter tests start on Thursday. The opening round of the 2023 F1 season will be contested on the same track on March 5.

If Stroll is not able to drive even at the beginning of March, Aston Martin will have to find a replacement for Stroll. The team’s official reserve driver is the champion of the F2 category Felipe Drugovich. Also Stoffel Vandoorne or last season’s Aston driver Sebastian Vettel are options.
