Lamborghini presents third GT3 version of the Huracan

Lamborghini had already teased it on social media on April 22nd, now it’s here: the Huracan GT3 Evo 2. The third GT3 version of the Huracan was officially presented on Tuesday.

Compared to the two predecessors – the Huracan GT3 from 2016 and the Huracan GT3 Evo from 2019 – the Huracan GT3 Evo 2 is particularly striking because of the air intake on the roof. But the aerodynamics have also been worked on at the Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

The Huracan GT3 Evo 2 has a new splitter at the front, a new underbody, a new diffuser at the rear and a new rear wing. All these innovations ensure more downforce. The basis for the new aero package is the Huracan STO, which is the street version of the racer used in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, so to speak.

The braking system has also been revised for the Evo2 version of the Huracan GT3. New brake calipers should make the car easier to control, especially when there is little grip. The V10 naturally aspirated engine has remained, but it now draws its air mainly through the new intake on the roof and no longer through large side air intakes directly below the roof.

“The Huracan GT3 Evo 2 is not simply an evolution of the current vehicle. It is a new project that underlines the technology transfer between Lamborghini’s motorsport department and the company,” says Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Racing Department Squadra Corse.

“It has to be just as successful as the previous GT3 generations”

According to Sanna, the latest stage of development has “two difficult tasks” to overcome: “It has to be just as successful as the previous GT3 generations of the Huracan, which have won more than 40 international titles in six racing seasons. And it has to live up to its commercial success, by helping to meet the goal of 500 Huracan racers since 2015.”

In the Volkswagen Group, the presentation of the Huracan GT3 Evo 2 follows almost a year after the presentation of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II. The new Huracan racer will be delivered to Lamborghini’s racing customers in good time for the start of the 2023 racing season the 24 Hours of Daytona, the season opener of the IMSA series.

Apart from the IMSA series, the current version, namely the Huracan GT3 Evo, is also used in the ADAC GT Masters, in the DTM and in the GT World Challenge.
