LaLiga: Ex-Mourinho assistant Aitor Karanka takes over Granada FC

Ex-Mourinho assistant

Granada FC have found a successor for Robert Moreno, who was sacked a month ago. Aitor Karanka is supposed to save the “Nazaríes”, who were previously looked after on an interim basis by Rubén Torrecilla, from relegation. Granada have won just one of their last 14 LaLiga games and are 17th with 29 points from 32 games – only a better goal difference keeps the club ahead of RCD Mallorca on the saving bank.

Karanka was José Mourinho’s first assistant coach for three years during his time at Real Madrid (2010 to 2013). This was followed by three positions as head coach in England, where the 48-year-old Spaniard looked after FC Middlesbrough (2013 to 2017), Nottingham Forest (2018 to 2019) and Birmingham City (2020 to 2021). With “Boro” Karanka made it into the Premier League in 2016.
