Breathe a sigh of relief at Lala Berlin. The insolvent Berlin fashion label has found a new owner in Copenhagen Studios.
Lala Berlin GmbH will become Lala Forever GmbH, a 100 percent subsidiary of Münster-based Copenhagen Studios GmbH, the parent company S.Oliver Group announced on Monday. The name ‘Lala Forever’ seems to be based on the brand’s circular economy initiative, which Lala Berlin launched in June 2022 to resell used pieces.
“We are consistently aligning our group of companies with the future in mind. An important building block for the long-term success of the company is the strategic expansion of our brand portfolio,” said Jürgen Otto, CEO of the S.Oliver Group. “With Lala Berlin we round off our offering in the premium segment, which is characterized by high standards of design and international relevance.”
Copenhagen Studios takes over Lala Berlin
The shoe and accessories brand Copenhagen Studios, which was founded in 2017 by the Liebeskind founders Julian and Johannes Rellecke, has been part of the Rottendorf-based clothing provider S.Oliver Group since 2021. The two founders will also take over the management of the Berlin company and build a new team, reported the trade magazine Textilwirtschaft. Leyla Piedayesh, founder of Lala Berlin, will also work for the new GmbH and will retain her role as creative director.
“I managed to find the best possible strategist on the market for the future of Lala Berlin,” said Piedayesh. “I will remain on board as creative director and can therefore maintain the soul and authenticity of the last few years.”
Piedayesh founded Lala Berlin in the German capital as a knitwear label, which was then gradually expanded to include ready-to-wear and accessories.
At the end of August, Lala Berlin GmbH submitted an application for self-administration insolvency proceedings to the responsible district court in Charlottenburg. The company had already initiated a sales process and held initial discussions before that.
