Laimer hints at a possible farewell to RB Leipzig

Bad Tatzmannsdorf (dpa) – Konrad Laimer is open to a change from DFB Cup winner RB Leipzig to another club.

It is “quite possible that I won’t play in Leipzig next season,” said the 25-year-old midfielder at the Austrian national soccer team’s training camp in Bad Tatzmannsdorf.

Laimer was recently mentioned several times as a preferred candidate by coach Julian Nagelsmann at FC Bayern Munich. The Salzburg native’s contract with RB runs until 2023. According to Leipzig club policy, Laimer would have to extend his contract this summer or be sold. RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff does not plan to leave regular players without a transfer.

The CEO recently emphasized that he definitely wanted to keep Laimer. “Of course we want to keep him. He is one of the best six in the Bundesliga and played a fantastic second half of the season,” he said on “Servus TV”. “He fits in perfectly with our club and our DNA and his skills are almost unique in Germany.”
