‘Lack of maturity’ kills AZ again: ‘Better read the match’

AZ again got the lid on the nose in the last minutes of the game. In Arnhem, the team lost to coach Pascal Jansen 2-1 after a goal in the 86th minute by Loïs Openda. “I think we are conceding too many goals,” says Jordy Clasie.

According to Clasie, AZ was the better team with more chances and more possession. Vangelis Pavlidis and Jesper Karlsson were close to scoring before halftime, but hit the crossbar and post respectively. “It’s all very nice for the statistics, but in the end you lose. The way in which it is done is a shame”, says Clasie, who put the equalizer on the scoreboard with a nice volley.

Just like last week in Heerenveen, AZ lost a lead in the final phase. Then the team got two hits. In Arnhem that was ‘only’ limited to one. “Still, it worked out,” Hatzidiakos says like a farmer with a toothache. According to the Greek central defender, the feeling in the dressing room was very double.

Once again, AZ has to repair the damage in-house. That was successful against Heerenveen (2-0 win). On Sunday at 2.30 pm, AZ will kick off in its own stadium for the final of the play-offs. The Alkmaarders have to win to be active in Europe next season.
