Lacazette: Lyon return without Europe “a bit more complicated” – talks with several clubs

Arsenal contract expires

Olympique Lyon would have preferred to bring center forward Alexandre Lacazette (30) back home in winter. Arsenal are said to have turned down a request, as did the player himself. Lacazette is now available on a free transfer in the summer and without the consent of the Londoners. He would be open to a comeback at the training club, but this time struggling Ligue 1 Lyon could face very different challenges themselves.

In an interview with “Canal Plus” in France, Lacazette made it clear that a change to OL is quite conceivable – but also that international business seems to be a basic requirement for this. Lacazette confirmed that his ex-club asked. But “Les Gones” are currently well behind the places that would entitle them to participate in a European competition. “Nothing is impossible,” said Lacazette diplomatically, but emphasized that without Europe it would be “a bit more complicated”.

It is of course uncertain how willing Lacazette would be to compromise for her old love. However, Lyon’s faint hopes are probably further dampened by the fact that the former national player even speaks of the “premium class”. “It’s been a long time since I played in the Champions League. I miss it.” In France’s top flight, only the champions and runners-up go straight into elite competition. The third party may also qualify. But even behind the other European Cup places four and five, Lyon in eighth is currently four points behind.

Rumors had recently also circulated about Lacazette and FC Barcelona after the former Ligue 1 top scorer (27 goals for Lyon 2014/15) in the current Premier League season around the turn of the year with ten points in eleven games drew attention. However, staying at Arsenal is considered unlikely. Lacazette explained that he was in contact with several clubs.
