The drama happened around 6am. A container transport truck was driving in the direction of Tournai and hit the victim, presumably on the hard shoulder. The 48-year-old man from Antwerp was busy placing road signs for upcoming works, when he was suddenly thrown into the green verge. The driver of the truck, which was damaged in the front right, was unable to stop immediately. However, the man turned around at the interchange with the A18 to drive back to the accident site via Rumbeke. Paramedics tried to resuscitate the man who had been hit by the car, but that proved in vain.
Due to the accident, the right lane of the E403 in the direction of Tournai was closed for a while. This caused no significant traffic problems.
