Labor leader Anthony Albanese sworn in as Australia’s new Prime Minister | NOW

Anthony Albanese was sworn in as Australia’s new Prime Minister on Monday. On Saturday, his center-left Labor party won the election of the Conservative party of incumbent Prime Minister Scott Morrison. Albanian wants to bring Australians closer together again, tackle climate change and fight inequality.

“I think people have had enough of division. What they want is to come together as a nation and I intend to lead that,” Albanian said after his election victory.

Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been criticized in recent years for the strict corona lockdowns in the country. His unsatisfactory approach to climate change and the way in which his government responded to severe flooding earlier this year also received a lot of criticism. According to Albanian, Australia is ready to do more to tackle climate change.

Albanian was installed as prime minister faster than usual as he will participate in his first international summit in the Japanese capital Tokyo on Tuesday. Traditionally, the summit called Quad takes place between the leaders of Australia, the United States, Japan and India.
