Labor Inspectorate starts investigation into Tuinland due to culture of fear

The Labor Inspectorate will investigate garden center Tuinland. In 2016, the Inspectorate also investigated the company, when ‘measures were taken’ by Tuinland. The Labor Inspectorate does not want to say more about that investigation.

Spokesperson for the Labor Inspectorate Paul Q. van der Burg confirms the start of the current investigation, after reporting from Newspaper of the North. Also this time no details can be given.

Last week, RTV Drenthe revealed that there is a culture of fear within Tuinland. The headmistress intimidates and humiliates employees. She also regularly said that she would like to ‘pull the head of an employee’. RTV Drenthe spoke with seventeen employees from all parts of the garden center. This concerns both (former) employees of the head office in Assen and people from the various retail locations in the capital of Drenthe, Groningen, Zwolle and Wilp.

The Labor Inspectorate confirmed at the time that reports had been received again this year from Tuinland employees. These are reports about ‘psychosocial workload’. Last week, the inspectorate considered starting an investigation. That has now definitely started.
