Labels to Watch: five children’s fashion brands

While there are a variety of aesthetic requirements when it comes to women’s and men’s clothing, children’s fashion is no less diverse. From princess dresses to timeless pieces to sporty and elegant garments, the brands operating in this segment create their own worlds. FashionUnited highlights five children’s fashion brands to keep an eye on.

Mori

British brand Mori offers pieces with simple designs in soft, natural tones. The range includes day and nightwear for babies and children as well as a large selection of accessories such as hats, mittens and slippers.

The zip pajamas, which range from 0 to 18-24 months, are one of the company’s bestsellers. It costs 38 euros and is available in striped, dotted or plain colors. Another popular item from the brand is the Mori Original Joggers, a comfortable jogging suit that can be tightened at the ankles and waist and costs 21.95 euros. The Dino Recycled Waterproof, a navy blue coat stylized with gray details modeled on the spines observed on some dinosaurs, is available for 79.50 euros. The garment is lined with microfleece made from 100% recycled polyester.

The brand takes a more sustainable approach and produces the majority of its items such as jumpsuits, bodysuits and children’s cardigans from a blend that consists of 30 percent organic cotton and 70 percent bamboo.

Mori was founded in 2015 and has an online shop and its own store at 97 Northcote Road in London. The company is also distributed through international retailers in the United States, Spain, Singapore and Canada.

Raquette

Tennis is the main inspiration of the Raquette brand, which in 2020 decided to reinterpret the aesthetics traditionally associated with this sport to create a wardrobe that is “comfortable, versatile and functional in a modern style”, as it explains in its online shop .

The company focuses on a streetwear style expressed in sweatshirts, jogging suits, tennis skirts, oversized dresses and zip-up polo shirts. The garments can be worn on city trips or while playing sports and are designed to be worn “on and off the court.” They are aimed at children and young people between the ages of 3 and 12.

The “Purple Clay Longsleeve” model, a burgundy sweater with a crew neck and long sleeves, is available in the brand’s online shop for 38 euros. The accompanying jogging pants are sold separately for 58 euros. The iconic tennis skirt, reimagined in a bright orange pleated version cinched at the waist with a white cord, costs 68 euros. Parents have to invest 125 euros in the “City Bomber 365”, a taupe-colored, quilted bomber jacket with a button placket at the front.

On its e-commerce website, the Barcelona-based brand offers consumers the opportunity to purchase older collections at discounted prices. The company says it donates one percent of its annual revenue to organizations that support the environment.

Mipounet

Although the French names of their collections might be misleading, the Mipounet brand is actually of Spanish origin. Founded in Valencia in 2018, it stands out for children’s items with a romantic and poetic spirit.

Her Fall/Winter 2023 collection, titled “Wonderful Creature,” includes a cream vest with blue flowers, a caramel-colored sweater with puffed sleeves and a wide eyelet knit collar, and a soft pink midi dress with oversized balloon sleeves and a cloud-shaped collar.

The brand also offers a selection of pieces for boys such as short-sleeved gingham shirts, knitted sweaters and crew-neck sweatshirts decorated with one or more birds. Prices range from 45 to 164 euros, excluding discounted items. Hats cost 35 euros.

The online-only brand says it produces timeless pieces in small quantities “to avoid overextending inventory and to prioritize quality over quantity,” the company says on its e-commerce site.

Marsou

French online retailer Marsou, founded in 2018 and dedicated to children’s fashion, opts for carefully reinvented classics by playing with materials, patterns or even the choice of collar.

His “wolf coat” has a pointed hood, small round pockets, a side buttonhole and a brindle fleece lining. The piece, made in France, costs 96 euros. The “Zebra A Col” cardigan with a flounced collar and a row of buttons on the front is made entirely of GOTS-certified organic cotton terry and costs 42 euros.

The Reidi leopard print romper with Claudine collar and the Becassine pajamas, one of the brand’s staple pieces, are sold at prices of 59 and 49 euros respectively. Marsou items are available in Germany through various online providers.

Antoinette Paris

“The first idea was to bring traditional French clothing to the U.S.,” says Antoinette Paris founder Aurelia de Sailly on the brand’s e-commerce site.

Antoinette Paris is a French clothing brand founded in 2017 for children aged 3 months to 10 years. She is characterized by an elegant and feminine aesthetic embodied by extravagant but delicate dresses.

Antoinette Paris offers a wide range of dresses: plain silk, tartan, with rolled-up sleeves or fully puffed, collarless or with claudine collar, straight or more puffy cut, decorated with flowers, butterflies or scrolls. They are almost always knee-length, colorful and give the wearer the look of a princess for a day.

The dresses cost an average of 150 euros. The brand also offers some pieces for boys, including dungarees inspired by Christmas decorations for 141.95 euros.

Antoinette Paris has an e-commerce site in English through which the company sells its products. It is also sold through the US children’s fashion marketplace Maisonnette.
