La Sapienza University launches 807 new PhD scholarships

LLa Sapienza University of Rome is betting on young people and launches 807 new PhD scholarships, partly linked to the Rome Technopole project, developed within the Pnrr area, partly ordinary and financed with university funds. The deadline not to be forgotten for submitting applications is 25 August.

We talk about it with Antonella Polimeni, rector of the university Wisdom and president of the Rome Technopole Foundation: “It is an innovation ecosystem made up of all the universities of Lazio – in addition to Sapienza there are Roma Tre, Tor Vergata, Luiss, the Biomedical Campus, the universities of Tuscia and Cassino – together with four national research bodies – Cnr, Enea, Infn and Iss – by the Municipality of Rome and the Region, by Unindustria and the Chambers of Commerce, by many small and medium-sized enterprises. The ecosystem is based on three important guidelines in Lazio, namely the ecological transition, the digital transition and the biopharma and health. As we know, the Pnrr funds go towards the Stem area but also towards the pharmacological research area; in the Agro Pontino, one of the most important in Italy for this sector, La Sapienza already has a pole with the departments of Medicine, Economics and Engineering in Latina ». A collaboration between public and private in the name of innovation.

PhD scholarships: not just Stem

We are therefore going to strengthen an already significant reality for research, teaching and business. “The peculiarity of the doctorates started with funds from the NRP”, adds the rector, “in addition to an economic increase, consists in the fact that young people are given the opportunity to do research also in the company. In this way, a bridge is finally created between research and business, focusing on specific professional skills required by the market, and training is aimed at placement ». The other doctoral scholarships, those with university funds, will instead be wide-ranging, “in all fields of knowledge.”

Rome Technopole for now will have a physical headquarters in La Sapienza, but plans are being made to build a brand new one in Pietralata, in the Eastern Directional System (Sdo) area, where La Sapienza already has a student residence and other buildings. A hub to give more space to young graduates in the areas on which Lazio research and businesses focus. The bags available are many, it’s time to try your hand.
