Unlike the first chapter, set in the present, this one you take a step back in time. You get to the seventeenth century to immerse yourself in a fantasy atmosphere. The protagonist is Paola (played by Zoe Massenti), a young orphan used to making ends meet as best she can. Growing up alone and amidst a thousand hardships, she learned to look after herself. She doesn’t have a home, she lives on the street and to survive she commits some theft.
Furthermore, she is a chronic liar, has no idea what good manners are and has a talent for danger. He always manages to get into risky situations. Sharing his adventures is his trusty Chicco (Mario Luciani), the inseparable friend who has always been in love with her.
The plot comes to life when his path intertwines with that of Baron De Michelis (Fabio De Luigi). He is a greedy, bad, lame man, who fights with its own hump and above all with his greatest obsession: witches. He hates them, cannot tolerate their presence and hunts them with the aim of eliminating them permanently. Keeping him company is Marmot (Herbert Ballerina), a faithful friend, who mistreats with the same wickedness with which he approaches the rest of the world.

The meeting between Paola and Dolores
The paths of Paola and Baron De Michelis intertwine when the little girl discovers something unspeakable. At least according to the Baron. One day, while she is stealing from the residence of the town’s Monsignor, Paola comes into possession of ua letter that could put the man’s career at risk. At that moment De Michelis arrives, wanting to take possession of it. Not succeeding in his undertaking, he decides that the girl must disappear: he accuses her of being a witch and condemns her to the stake.
We discover the reason for his aversion towards witches. Years before, witches would have killed the woman he wanted to marry. After losing the great love of her life, she vowed revenge.
However, luck knocks on Paola’s door and she risks being burned alive. Dolores (Monica Bellucci) comes to his aid, who takes her to safety. Dolores is a good witch, with long white hair and a deep gaze. His mission is to shelter the children of witches. After getting them out of danger, she takes them to her house, in the middle of the woods.
So for the first time Paola has a roof over her head and a comfortable environment in which to sleep. Dolores is destiny’s gift, but she doesn’t yet know there’s more. In fact, the witch immediately realizes that the little girl has something special. And she begins to think that maybe she is the right person to transfer the power to. Will she be the new Befana?
